Sr. Applications Engineer

Hopkins, MN

Inginaire is seeking a Sr. Applications Engineer for a client company located in Hopkins, MN. This position will perform engineering and supervisory duties in estimating and designing HVAC and other mechanical equipment including air handling equipment, chiller plants, boiler plants, custom DX equipment, mechanical penthouses, and central utility plants. *If you're willing to relocate this position can be for either their Holly, MI location, or their Hopkins, MN location*


  • Attendance at work during regularly scheduled shifts and scheduled overtime is an essential duty. This includes, but is not limited to, being at the work station ready for work at the start of the shift.
  • Use independent judgement and apply engineering principles to perform a wide variety of tasks in the selling, quoting, engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply engineering principles to achieve proficiency in quoting AND engineering at least 3 of the following: AHUs, Hot and Chilled Water Systems, Steam Systems, custom DX equipment, and HVAC equipment electrical systems.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to lead a team on large and complicated projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly interact with Inside Sales, Regional Sales Managers, vendors, subcontractors, Reps, customers and other TMI personnel.
  • Creates thorough Sales Letter indicating what proposal includes and what has been excluded from the quote.
  • Process work utilizing sales strategy protocols and follow sales rules of engagement.
  • Follow departmental procedures as required.
  • Exceptional multitasker and time management skills to facilitate working simultaneously on many different projects and meeting deadlines consistently with high quality output.
  • Perform peer reviews of work done by others.
  • Specify system components or select equipment to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Create full engineering submittal packages for DX equipment, Hydronics, and Air Handling Units projects.
  • Travel and attend job clarification meetings as needed.
  • Travel and attend face to face project submittal reviews as needed.
  • Intermediate understanding of AHU power system.
  • Proficient in writing a sequent of operations for at least 2 of the following: AHU, custom DX system, or Hydronics plant.
  • Review customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Recommend design modifications to reduce cost or improve performance.
  • Investigate equipment failures to diagnose faulty operation or design. Make recommendations to service department to fix the problem as well as updating standards for future designs.
  • Utilize test control apparatus and equipment and follow procedures for testing products.
  • Supervisory skills include being responsible for the following for a team up to 6 Application Engineers:
  • Managing their vacation time and workloads
  • Ensuring the team's tasks are completed on time and to sufficient quality
  • Evaluating the quality of others work
  • Answering the team's technical and procedural questions
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or HVAC Technology strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 8 years industry experience with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or HVAC Technology preferred or 12 years minimum industry experience without Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or HVAC Technology.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and 2D AutoCad and/or solid modeling software.
